To optimize the magnificent coloration of the koi, a suitable diet is required. A needs-based proportion of the microalgae Spirulina in the food supports color saturation and intensification, as well as the clear separation of the color zones. White areas appear radiant and without a distracting yellow tint. 

Spirulina consists of over 50% protein, contains all essential amino acids, and many unsaturated fatty acids. Furthermore, the algae is characterized by a variety of vitamins and minerals. Astaxanthin, for example, has a color-promoting effect, especially for red areas. Astaxanthin is a pigment that is vitamin-like, immune-boosting, antioxidant, and fertility-promoting. For sera food, only the natural, highly bioavailable variant of Astaxanthin is used. For this, sera primarily uses the Haematococcus algae (60.5 mg Astaxanthin per kg of food) as a source. However, ingredients such as krill and Spirulina also contribute to the supply of Astaxanthin and other important pigments.

Koi Professional Color consists of two components: the food ring and the core. This is achieved through the special co-extrusion production process, which allows differently treated raw materials to be combined. The food ring contains Spirulina and Haematococcus as high-quality, natural ingredients for unique colors and species-appropriate nutrition. The core consists, among other things, of essential vitamins, minerals, and trace elements for healthy growth and a strong immune system. 

The color food can be fed all year round at water temperatures of 8° Celsius and above.
