OASE Bitron Eco UVC Clarifier for Koi Ponds – 120, 180 & 240 W

The OASE Bitron Eco is a UVC clarifier for koi ponds and garden ponds with 120, 180, or 240 watts of UVC power. It combats floating algae, turbidity, and germs, automatically adjusting its performance based on the water temperature. Depending on the version, it is suitable for koi ponds up to 30, 45, or 60 m³.

Which version is right for your pond?

For koi, it’s not the maximum pond size that counts, but the "koi value." Koi put significantly more strain on the water through food and waste than a few goldfish. OASE therefore provides three values:

Our advice: If your pond is near the limit, is in full sun, or is heavily stocked, choose the next size up. For koi ponds over 60 m³, we can advise you on a solution using multiple units.

How the Bitron Eco works

• Eco-control: The controller measures the water temperature and switches the UVC lamps on or off according to algae growth. According to OASE, this saves up to 50% on electricity.¹ The performance can also be adjusted manually via the display.
• Automatic bypass: A bypass membrane automatically distributes the water based on flow rate. The unit operates at 10,000 to 50,000 l/h and compensates for fluctuations in pump performance.
• Long irradiation: The large-volume housing keeps the water in the UVC light for a long time, making the radiation more effective against algae and germs.
• Self-cleaning: A cleaning rotor, driven by the water flow, constantly moves around the quartz glass. Deposits cannot settle, ensuring the UVC radiation remains fully effective.
• Long-lasting lamps: The 60 W Eco lamps last for 12,000 operating hours. The display indicates when a replacement is due. The quartz glass remains installed when changing the lamps.
• Flexible setup: Thanks to IP68 protection, the device can be placed directly at or even in the pond. The power cord is 5 m long.

UVC and filters belong together

The Bitron Eco does not replace a filter. The UVC light damages the floating algae, causing them to clump together so they can be retained by the filter. In pumped systems, the unit is therefore positioned between the pump and the filter. For gravity-fed systems with a bottom drain, the Bitron Premium is the right choice.

Using the 2-inch connections, it can be attached directly to the OASE BioTec ScreenMatic², BioTec 30, and ProfiClear. In combination with OASE flow-through filters such as BioSmart, BioTec, or ProfiClear, the OASE Clear Water Guarantee applies.

The Bitron Eco requires at least 10,000 l/h. Suitable pumps include the OASE AquaMax Eco Classic from 14,500 upwards, or the AquaMax Eco Premium from 17,000 upwards.

Tip: Floating algae grow primarily when there is a high level of phosphate in the water. BHK Teichmineral binds phosphate and thus addresses the root cause.

Frequently asked questions

Which Bitron Eco fits my koi pond?

According to OASE, the 120 W version is sufficient for koi ponds up to 30 m³, the 180 W up to 45 m³, and the 240 W up to 60 m³. For heavy stocking or a lot of sun, we recommend the next size up.

How often do I have to change the UVC lamps?

After 12,000 operating hours, which is approximately 16 months of continuous operation. The display indicates when a change is due. Because the Eco-control switches lamps off at times, the interval is longer in practice.

Does the Bitron Eco replace a pond filter?

No. The UVC light causes floating algae to clump together; only the filter removes them from the water. The Bitron Eco therefore always works in conjunction with a filter.

Where is the Bitron Eco installed?

In pumped systems, between the pump and the filter. The operating pressure must not exceed 1 bar. Thanks to the IP68 protection class, the unit can be placed directly at the edge of the pond.

What flow rate does the Bitron Eco need?

Between 10,000 and 50,000 l/h. The bypass membrane automatically adjusts water distribution to match pump performance.

How much electricity does the Eco mode save?

According to OASE, up to 50% compared to continuous operation at full power. The control unit switches lamps off when cold water slows down algae growth.

Is the UVC light dangerous for koi?

No. The radiation only acts on the water flowing through the closed housing. According to OASE, the unit is 100% protected against eye damage.

What warranty is provided?

OASE provides a 2-year warranty. Register your Bitron Eco online with OASE after purchase to extend the warranty by 1 year to a total of 3 years. This requires purchase from an authorized OASE specialist dealer such as Koi-Area. Registration is carried out via the OASE product registration, and the conditions can be found in the OASE warranty conditions. Your statutory warranty rights toward Koi-Area remain unaffected by this.
