The OASE Bitron C is a UVC clarifier for smaller koi ponds and garden ponds with 24 to 110 watts of UVC power. It combats suspended algae and germs, while a cleaning rotor automatically keeps the quartz glass clean. Depending on the model, it is suitable for koi ponds ranging from 6.5 to 27.5 m³.

Which model is right for your pond?
With koi, it is not the maximum pond size that counts, but the koi volume. Koi place a significantly higher load on the water due to feed and waste than a few goldfish. OASE therefore specifies three values:
| Model | Koi pond up to | Pond with fish up to | Pond without fish up to |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24 W | 6.5 m³ | 12.5 m³ | 25 m³ |
| 36 W | 10 m³ | 20 m³ | 40 m³ |
| 55 W | 15 m³ | 30 m³ | 60 m³ |
| 72 W | 19 m³ | 37.5 m³ | 75 m³ |
| 110 W | 27.5 m³ | 55 m³ | 110 m³ |
Our advice: If your koi pond is larger than approx. 20 m³ or heavily stocked, it is worth looking at the Bitron Premium 60 W. According to OASE, it is sufficient for koi ponds up to 33 m³ and is also suitable for gravity-fed systems. The Bitron Eco is available for koi ponds up to 60 m³.
How the Bitron C works
- Self-cleaning: A cleaning rotor, driven by the water flow, runs constantly around the quartz glass. Deposits cannot take hold, and the UVC radiation remains fully effective.
- Adjustable flow rate: You can use a rotary handle to regulate how much water flows past the UVC lamp. This allows you to adapt the Bitron C precisely to your filter pump.
- Limescale protection: According to OASE, integrated magnets protect the pump and filter from limescale deposits.
- Visual inspection: Through a viewing window, you can see at any time whether the UVC lamp is lit.
- Suitable connections: The stepped hose adapter at the inlet is suitable for hoses from ¾″ to 2″, or 1″ to 1½″ for the 24 W model. Two outlets accommodate hoses from 1″ to 1½″.
UVC and filters go together
The Bitron C does not replace a filter. The UVC light damages the suspended algae; they clump together and are subsequently retained in the filter. In pumped systems, the device is therefore positioned between the pump and the filter. For gravity-fed systems with a floor drain, the Bitron Premium is the right choice.

The Bitron C can be attached directly to OASE filters such as BioSmart, BioTec ScreenMatic², and ProfiClear. The OASE clear water guarantee applies in combination with these OASE flow-through filters.
A suitable pump, for example, is the OASE AquaMax Eco Classic. The pump should not exceed the maximum flow rate of the Bitron C: 15,000 l/h for the 24 W, 30,000 l/h for the 36 and 55 W, and 40,000 l/h for the 72 and 110 W models.
Tip: Suspended algae grow primarily when there is a high phosphate content in the water. BHK pond mineral binds phosphate and thus tackles the root cause.

Spare parts and maintenance
For changing the lamp, the lamp unit can be opened via a quick-release fastener. We recommend changing the UVC lamp before each new season, as the UVC performance decreases with operating hours. We would be happy to supply you with the appropriate replacement lamp for your Bitron C.
Frequently asked questions
Which Bitron C is suitable for my koi pond?
According to OASE, the 24 W is sufficient for koi ponds up to 6.5 m³, the 36 W up to 10 m³, the 55 W up to 15 m³, the 72 W up to 19 m³, and the 110 W up to 27.5 m³. For heavy stocking or sunny locations, we recommend the next size up.
Does the Bitron C replace a pond filter?
No. The UVC light causes suspended algae to clump together; only the filter then removes them from the water. The Bitron C therefore always works in conjunction with a filter.
Where is the Bitron C installed?
In pumped systems, between the pump and the filter. The easiest method is direct attachment to an OASE filter such as BioSmart or BioTec ScreenMatic².
How do I adjust the flow rate?
Using the rotary handle on the device. This allows you to determine how much water flows directly past the UVC lamp and how much flows through the bypass.
When should I change the UVC lamp?
We recommend changing it before each new season. You can see at any time through the viewing window whether the lamp is lit.
Is the UVC light dangerous for koi?
No. The radiation only acts on the water flowing through the closed housing.
What warranty is provided?
OASE grants a 2-year manufacturer warranty. The conditions can be found in the OASE warranty conditions. Your statutory warranty rights towards Koi-Area remain unaffected.
