The OASE Bitron Premium is a UVC clarifier with a stainless steel reactor for large koi ponds, available with 60, 120, or 180 watts of UVC power. It operates on the principle of an immersion UVC and fits into both pumped and gravity-fed systems. Depending on the version, it is suitable for koi ponds up to 33, 66, or 100 m³.

OASE Bitron Premium UVC clarifier for koi ponds up to 100 m³

Which version is right for your pond?

With koi, it is not the maximum pond size that counts, but the koi value. Koi burden the water significantly more than a few goldfish due to their feed and waste. OASE therefore specifies three values:

Version Koi pond up to Pond with fish up to Pond without fish up to
60 W 33 m³ 50 m³ 90 m³
120 W 66 m³ 100 m³ 185 m³
180 W 100 m³ 160 m³ 280 m³

Our advice: If your pond is near the limit, is in full sun, or is heavily stocked, choose the next size up. For even larger koi ponds, several Bitron Premium units can be combined.

How the Bitron Premium works

  • Like an immersion UVC: The water flows through a flow-optimized reactor and, according to OASE, is irradiated directly and with virtually no loss.
  • Long dwell time: The reactor keeps the water in the UVC light for an exceptionally long time. This allows the radiation to act thoroughly against algae and germs.
  • Before or after the filter: The Bitron Premium can be positioned before or after a ProfiClear filter and is also suitable for other gravity-fed systems.
  • Lamps switchable individually: With the 120 W and 180 W versions, you can switch the lamps on individually as needed.
  • Flexible mounting: Horizontal or vertical, secured with stainless steel tension locks.
  • Safe: According to OASE, the device is 100% protected against eye damage. You can verify operation via visual inspection.

Gravity-fed or pumped

The Bitron Premium has DN 110 connections and is therefore made for gravity-fed systems with a bottom drain. It sits before or after the filter, for example behind an OASE ProfiClear. In combination with ProfiClear filters, the OASE Clear Water Guarantee applies.

In gravity-fed operation, OASE recommends a flow rate of 16,500 l/h for the 60 W, 33,000 l/h for the 120 W, and 50,000 l/h for the 180 W model. The OASE AquaMax Eco Titanium is suitable as a pump for gravity-fed systems, and the AquaMax Eco Premium for pumped systems.

Tip: Floating algae grow primarily when there is a lot of phosphate in the water. BHK Teichmineral binds phosphate and thus tackles the root cause.

Frequently asked questions

Which Bitron Premium is right for my koi pond?

According to OASE, the 60 W is sufficient for koi ponds up to 33 m³, the 120 W up to 66 m³, and the 180 W up to 100 m³. For heavy stocking or a lot of sun, we recommend the next size up.

Should the Bitron Premium go before or after the filter?

Both are possible. In gravity-fed systems, it is often placed after the filter, where it irradiates water that has already been cleaned.

Is the Bitron Premium suitable for gravity-fed systems?

Yes. With its DN 110 connections, it is designed exactly for that. However, it also works in pumped systems up to 0.6 bar.

What flow rate does the Bitron Premium require?

In gravity-fed operation, OASE recommends 16,500, 33,000, or 50,000 l/h, depending on the version. It can handle a maximum of 40,000, 70,000, or 100,000 l/h.

Can I combine several Bitron Premium units?

Yes. If the pond gets larger or the stocking density increases, the system can be easily expanded with additional units, according to OASE.

How often do I need to replace the UVC lamps?

After 12,000 operating hours, which is approximately 16 months in continuous operation.

Is UVC light dangerous for koi?

No. The radiation acts on the flowing water only inside the sealed reactor.

What is the guarantee?

OASE grants a 2-year manufacturer guarantee. The conditions can be found in the OASE warranty terms. Your statutory warranty rights towards Koi-Area remain unaffected by this.
